Leon Goretzka has been heavily linked with a move from Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Manchester United are interested in signing him as his contract with the German champions expires in June. According to a report from SportWitness, they will be competing with Arsenal for the 31-year-old Germany international.

Goretzka has produced reliable results for both club and country over the past few seasons and there is no doubt that he has the qualities to succeed in the Premier League. He adds defensive coverage, physicality, and drive in the middle of the park. Manchester United need someone of his quality and experience, especially with Casemiro leaving the club in the summer.

Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer could be a coup for Manchester United. It remains to be seen whether they can follow through on Arsenal’s signature and win. Goretzka has six league titles and one Champions League trophy.

The midfielder will demand wages of around 7 million euros per season, but Manchester United certainly have the financial wherewithal to take him on. Arsenal, on the other hand, could use more depth in the center of the park, with the Germany international likely to be an upgrade on Christian Norgaard.

Arsenal are favorites to win the Premier League and will be an attractive transfer destination for top players in the summer.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are still in the midst of a rebuilding period. It will be interesting to see if the Bayern Munich star is willing to join them instead of Arsenal.

Manchester United need to improve their engine room if they want to compete for major trophies next season. Apart from the 31-year-old German, they should also consider investing in a midfield controller who can help them dominate the contest in the center of the park.
