Manchester United are currently in talks to sign the “incredible” Paris Saint-Germain star in a deal that could satisfy Bruno Fernandes.
Nicky Butt urges INEOS to strengthen attack
It was a solid debut for Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesco and Brian Mbeumo at Old Trafford, with the trio establishing themselves as key players for Man United, but manager Nicky Butt suggested they needed more firepower in attack.
With the Red Devils in a good position to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Butt believes they will need a new striker to compete for Sesco’s starting spot. “I don’t think he can carry the club forward by himself and they will need a number nine.
“He shows he has great potential, he shows great movement, he practices with his socks off. You can see he can score goals and he’s good in the air, but he’s not United’s full centre-forward at that level. He could potentially get there.”
“When you get into the Champions League, it’s a completely different kettle. The tempo is completely different, the pressure is completely different. Then you come back into the league and have to perform, maybe two days later. They’re going to have to get the top, top players.”
If Michael Carrick’s side get over the line and qualify for the Champions League, they could attract the kind of talent Butt is talking about. They now have their sights set on PSG’s star player.
Manchester United hold contract talks with ‘incredible’ star
TEAMtalk reports that Manchester United are in new talks to sign PSG striker Gonzalo Ramos, having previously considered a move for the former Portuguese striker, but widespread competition is expected within the Premier League.
Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen to sign the Portugal international, who is attracting interest from across Europe, but talisman Fernandes could also be delighted if Jason Wilcox is able to seal a deal.
Speaking about his national teammate, the attacking midfielder said: “I believe if he continues to work as well as he has, he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world.
“He’s already close to that level, but he still needs to go to a more competitive league and prove it there. I believe he has the ability to do that.”
The 24-year-old, who earns £92,000 a week, has not been named on PSG’s team sheet this season but has had a solid goalscoring record for France and Benfica.
Gonzalo Ramos’ offensive stats | Appearance | the goal |
P.S.G. | 124 | 44 |
Benfica | 106 | 41 |
Ramos, hailed as “incredible” by Statman Dave, would make sense for him to leave PSG this summer as he is at a stage in his career where he needs to play regularly and is capable of challenging for a starting role in Sesco’s place.
