Southampton’s social media team added salt to the wounds of Arsenal faithful by brutally trolling Gunners supporters with X after Saints’ shock 2-1 FA Cup win against St Mary’s on Saturday.

Minutes after the final whistle, the exchange went viral, with the Clinical Championship side securing a place in the semi-finals and effectively ending Arsenal’s hopes of winning a domestic cup trophy this season.

Southampton manager brutally trolls Arsenal fans

The exchange began after an Arsenal supporter replied, dissatisfied with Southampton’s official full-time announcement.

The fan dismissed the Saints’ hard-fought victory, won by Shay Charles’ late 85th-minute game-winning goal, as just a “fluke win.”

The Southampton manager was quick to hit back, referring to the recent hype surrounding Mikel Arteta’s side, noting that many thought they could win the Quadruple.

The official account replied, “Enjoy your quad, friends,” along with a waving emoji.

The post quickly racked up tens of thousands of likes, with rival fans joining in to mock the north London club’s rapid exit from two major competitions in just two weeks.

Another trophy chance on the bottle for Arsenal

For Arsenal, this reflects a harsh reality on the pitch. It means the Gunners have missed out on a second title in recent weeks, having already lost the League Cup final to Manchester City before the international break.

A late defensive lapse after Gabriel Magalhães’ injury raised familiar questions about the team’s mental strength.

With the FA Cup and League Cup gone, the pressure is on Arteta to deliver at least one trophy.

Mikel Arteta really needs to deliver silverware

A quadruple title has always been an ambitious dream, but the sudden collapse of the domestic cup competition has left Arsenal with only two avenues of success: the Premier League and the Champions League.

Arteta is having a decisive month after transforming the club into title contenders.

The Spaniard, who faces Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday, knows that a season without trophies will be seen as a failure.

As the Saints management was keen to point out, the multiple trophy story is over. Now Arsenal must prove they can secure at least one player to justify their ‘elite’ status.

However, Arteta can still finish the season with not just one, but two trophies. The Gunners have a perfect record in the Champions League and are expected to reach the final this season.

They hold a nine-point lead over Manchester City in the Premier League, and although they have played more games than their title rivals, it is highly unlikely that Arteta will close the potential six-point gap with seven games remaining.
