Glasgow Rangers may have been propelled to victory despite it being Saturday afternoon, but Tuer Rommens’ absence would have caused manager Danny Rolle an unwanted headache.

Rohr said the 23-year-old suffered a “muscle injury” that will keep him sidelined for at least the next two games, and the Gers are likely to sweat over his possible involvement in the run-in.

Arguably the standout performer in the squad when he joined in January, Lomence has settled in very well in recent weeks and looked particularly threatening in last month’s 2-2 draw in the Glasgow derby.

In just six Premiership appearances, the Belgian has scored one goal, provided one assist and created four ‘big chances’, leaving a big role for youngster Jayden Meghoma. Could a player on loan at Brentford be the right solution?

How Meghoma fared as Rangers beat Dundee United

Even before Romens arrived, left-back position had long been an issue at Ibrox, with the likes of Ridvan Yilmaz and Jefte failing to secure a regular spot in recent years, and even Max Aarons being used at left-back at the start of the season.

Fellow loanee Meghoma has been a much more consistent presence when called upon, but the 19-year-old simply hasn’t reached Romans’ level and despite starting 23 games in 2025/26, he scored one goal, provided four assists and created just four ‘big chances’.

The teenager lacks the real attacking power that the Belgian offers, and that was evident despite the hosts’ 4-2 win against Dundee United last time out.

In fact, Meghoma notably provided the only significant pass in that 90-minute match, completing only one of his four cross attempts and not registering a single successful dribble.

Defensively, there was some slump as well, winning just three of nine games in total, napping during the build-up to Zak Sapsford’s attack in the second half, and proving unable to track down Luka Stevenson, who was reported to be a target for the Gers.

That lack of concentration ultimately wasn’t costly, but it remains to be seen whether he can be trusted moving forward, having already made three errors that resulted in shots this season.

The hope is that Romans returns sooner rather than later, but in the meantime, Rolle could get creative with a wild card solution.

Rangers’ £4m star could be a wildcard candidate at left-back

If Rolle is looking to find an alternative option on that wing, a more traditional adjustment might be to deploy the versatile Dujon Sterling at left-back, while returning James Tavernier to the starting lineup in his preferred right-wing position.

Roll could replace Naderi by releasing a star Rangers player who isn’t even a striker.

Danny Rohr could soften the blow of Ryan Naderi’s injury by unleashing a star who isn’t even a centre-forward.

However, if they are looking for a natural left-footer to replace Meghoma and someone who can provide real attacking momentum, Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Diomande could be an option on the left.

The 24-year-old, who joined from Nordschelland in a £4m deal, has played primarily in midfield or on the wing so far in his senior career, and has already scored up to 10 goals in 113 games for the Gers.

But back in Denmark, of his 111 appearances for his former employers, two of them actually came at left-back in 2020, with Diomande notably registering an assist.

At one point, he was a mainstay in this Rangers team alongside Nico Raskin, but the eight-cap international has been somewhat overshadowed in recent weeks, with Tochi Chukwani usually a priority pick alongside the Belgian.

Diomande has not featured in any league games since his 10-minute cameo against Hearts, although he did provide two assists in the previous two league games, including one away to Motherwell.

The left-footer scored Ruskin’s opening goal on the night following a superb run from deep, showing ball-carrying skills that could serve as a substitute for Lomence from full-back.

As this assist showed, while he is a creative threat on the ball, he is no slouch defensively, averaging 1.9 tackles and interceptions per game in the Premiership, but only 0.7 dribbles per game.

Even compared to Megoma, Diomande wins 50% of all duels, 43% of aerial duels, and loses the ball only 7.4 times per match. Meanwhile, the average for the same three metrics for British players was just 48%, 23% and 11.1 respectively.

Of course, Diomand’s move may not be suitable in the long term, but it would be a way to bring such a talented player back into the team, while his ability to move inside and join the midfield could give Coach Rohr’s men greater control in that department.

Next on the agenda is a trip to Falkirk, but is it time for an experiment for the Germans?
