Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reversed the obsessive training habits that turned Mohamed Salah into one of the best finishers in football history, revealing a secret backyard project that changed everything.
Speaking to Peter Crouch on a recent podcast following the Liverpool Legends match at Anfield, Klopp admitted he had never seen a player with the same personality and relentless desire as the Egyptian king, who is set to leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Klopp talks about how Mo Salah has improved his finishing
Klopp revealed that Salah’s clinical nature in front of goal was not just an innate talent, but the result of a tireless effort that was sparked by his own frustrations during his time in Italy.
“He started scoring because he wasn’t happy with how he was doing in Roma, so he built a goal in his backyard. I’m sure a lot of people built goals in their gardens to try and improve.”
“In my imagination, he did that seven hours a day. Every summer, he would come back from summer vacation with new skills and new ideas.”
Klopp highlighted how this constant evolution has allowed Salah to remain at the top despite changing roles.
“If you remember last season when we were champions, how many goals he scored, the way he set up, the way he always cuts inside when he takes shots, Kodi Gakpo or whoever came in, we were in these situations and he took it perfectly.
“He always came with something new. He never stopped and never will. He’s 33 years old, but he’s 100 percent for another five or six years.”
Salah’s scoring record speaks for itself.
The numbers that support Salah’s career at Anfield underpin Klopp’s high praise.
Since joining in 2017, the forward has scored an astonishing 255 goals for the Reds, placing him third on the club’s all-time top scorers list.

Despite a difficult 2025/26 season for the team, Salah has still managed to score 10 goals in all competitions this season.
Klopp’s revelations serve as a reminder that it will be difficult to repeat Salah’s unprecedented results as he prepares for his final seven games in a Liverpool shirt.
