Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit has joined the conversation about the Manchester United managerial job.
The former legendary midfielder turned football pundit surprisingly backed compatriot Robin van Persie to become Red Devils manager in the future.
Michael Carrick is currently doing a great job at Old Trafford after a disastrous season under manager Ruben Amorim.
However, it is not yet certain whether Carrick will take the job, despite some reports suggesting he is leading the race to become Man United’s next permanent manager.
Ruud Gullit backs Man United’s Van Persie
Gullit believes Van Persie could become the manager of a Premier League side in the future.
“It would be great if Robin van Persie became Manchester United manager in the future.” Galit said, according to comments carried by Metro.
“I hope it happens someday!
“Robin is a great manager, but he’s having a bit of a hard time at Feyenoord at the moment. He’s got more attention than other Eredivisie managers, and I feel like there’s a lot more expected from him given his career.
“He’s currently facing some criticism here in the Netherlands, but I hope he can rectify that and give him time to prove himself.”
“Look at what happened to Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United – they kept him and look at how great he ended up being!”
“But in the future, I think it would be great for Robin to manage at Old Trafford one day.”
Red Devils have big decisions to make
Gullit’s support for Van Persie shows the former Arsenal and Man United striker is causing a stir in the managerial world as INEOS sporting directors continue a thorough vetting process.
However, if Carrick continues his incredible domestic comeback, INEOS may not have to make a difficult decision regarding their next permanent manager.
Van Persie is still young as a manager and still learning his trade, but his fond memories of his time at Old Trafford and how much praise he has received from fans for his contribution to the 2013 Premier League title campaign could mean a lot when it comes to his future job at Man United.
The job at United would be too big for him at the moment and they need someone with experience cleaning up the mess they have made in recent years under Erik ten Hag and Amorim.
