Sky Sports has shared an update on the charges West Brom are facing for allegedly breaching the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations.

Baggies face points deduction this season

West Brom could face a points sanction this season for potentially breaching the EFL’s financial rules.

The Telegraph first reported on Monday morning that the Club Financial Reporting Unit (CFRU) had submitted a compliance report to the Baggies over breaches of loss limits for the 2024-25 season under the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability (P&S) regulations.

According to the sanction guidelines, the sanction should apply in the season following the breach, meaning that if a points penalty is imposed it will affect Albion’s points total for this season.

This could have a significant impact on the club, who sit in 20th place in the Sky Bet Championship, just two points above the relegation zone.

The Telegraph reported that Albion have asked for any punishment to be postponed until next season. Other sanctions that could be imposed could include a transfer ban or a fine.

West Brom are required to submit a response within 14 days of receiving the CFRU compliance report, and Sky Sports News carried the statement live on Monday afternoon.

West Brom’s full statement

West Bromwich Albion has confirmed media reports regarding the club’s compliance with the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability (P&S) Regulations.

The Club considers itself to be in full compliance with the P&S Regulations. The Club looks forward to continuing to work with the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Department to resolve this matter.

Albion understands the concerns of our supporters and would like to thank them for their unwavering support of the team. Success on the pitch in the final four games of the season remains our absolute priority.

It would not be appropriate for the club to comment further at this stage.
