After a disastrous season marred by defensive weaknesses and dressing room mayhem, the club is in dire need of a complete reset, with big players like Harry Winks drawing huge criticism for their performances.

The search for a new manager is in full swing, with current manager Gary Rowett fully expected to pack up and leave the King Power Stadium following relegation.

Leicester City identify managerial target

According to SportsBoom, Leicester City have already made formal contact with Darren Ferguson.

The Foxes’ board are said to be very keen on the 54-year-old, as they begin to actively plan next season’s strategy.

Although he undoubtedly carries the burden of being the son of Sir Alex Ferguson, Darren is highly regarded in the lower leagues and has built a solid reputation for himself.

During his playing days, he spent the majority of his career at Wrexham, making around 300 appearances for the Welsh club.

His extensive playing experience has given him a deep and fundamental understanding of the lower leagues, which is directly reflected in his no-nonsense managerial style.

Ferguson is widely known throughout the English game as a legitimate promotion specialist at this level.

Mr Ferguson is credited with saving the club from crisis.

During his various spells as manager of Peterborough United, he managed to drag the club out of League One and into the Championship on three occasions.

Furthermore, Leicester’s relegation means they face severe financial constraints and a tight budget.

Ferguson has a track record of being effective without requiring large transfer funds.

The fan base may be completely heartbroken by their relegation, but navigating the minefield of League One requires a manager who truly knows the territory.

If the Foxes are looking to bounce back quickly, hiring an EFL veteran like Ferguson could be just the lean appointment they need.
