ROME – Fresh from winning the biggest title of her career, Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk withdrew from the Italian Open due to hip and ankle problems.

Kostyuk won Saturday’s Madrid Open and moved to a career-high No. 15 in this week’s rankings. Kostyuk is on an 11-game winning streak, having won the clay court title in Rouen, France, the week before the match against Madrid.

“I was looking forward to Rome after the best period of my career, but sometimes my body has other plans, and I’ve been dealing with a hip issue in recent days. My ankle is not 100% yet, so it’s not wise to keep pushing right now, so I won’t be competing in Rome this year,” Kostyuk posted on Instagram on Tuesday, the start of the tournament in Rome.

“Now is the time to recover and prepare for Paris,” Kostyuk said, referring to the French Open, which starts on May 24.
