Fifteen years after his death, Seve Ballesteros’ legacy continues to live on in European golf.
From the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, golf’s European players paid tribute to the great man by donning his iconic navy pants and white shirt during the opening rounds of The Truist and LIV Virginia. Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia were among them.

Beyond his five major titles, Ballesteros’ legacy is etched into the Ryder Cup. He helped establish the foundation and identity of Team Europe, which is still evident today.
Marking 15 years since his death, European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has spoken of how Ballesteros has helped him in his role to this day.

Luke Donald pays tribute to Seve Ballesteros on 15th anniversary of his death
Among the tributes to Ballesteros was Donald, who explained via Ryder Cup Europe’s social media how the Spaniard has inspired him throughout his career.
Donald wrote: “Hello everyone. On the 15th anniversary of his death, I pay tribute to the great Seve Ballesteros, but I wanted to add my own personal tribute.

“I think Seve meant a lot to me throughout my career. As an aspiring junior, he was my idol. His way of scouting the golf course, his charisma, his sense of the game, and obviously his short game were things that anyone who plays golf would look up to. We all wanted to be like Seve.”
“He has taken on even greater significance in recent years as captain of Team Europe. His legacy at the Ryder Cup is second to none. He is a leader in what it truly means to represent Team Europe.”
“Thank you for everything you have given to our game and the Ryder Cup. Your spirit and passion will live on forever through European golf and in every player who has the honor of wearing the blue and gold. Thank you.”
As expected, it’s a classy compliment from Donald, who always seems to hit the right notes at times like these.

Justin Rose pays tribute to Seve Ballesteros
Perhaps from current Ryder Cup captains to future captains. Rose was one of the many who paid tribute to Ballesteros with her outfit at The Truist, and shared her thoughts on this on social media afterwards.
“Today, 15 years after his death, we pay tribute to Seve, a Ryder Cup legend and an icon of our game.
“It’s great to see European players from all over the world wearing navy and white on various tours in his honor.”
It’s a great sentiment from Rose who put aside the battle between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf for this message. Overall, the golf world was successful in celebrating Ballesteros’ accomplishments.
