Emma Laducane reunites with US Open winning coach ahead of Strasbourg and French Open

British number one Emma Laducane has reunited with her US Open winning coach Andrew Richardson.

The partnership will begin immediately, with Richardson joining Raducane in Strasbourg and expected to return next week after two months out due to illness.

Raducanu was heavily criticized for parting ways with Richardson so soon after his stunning 2021 win in New York.

At the time, Raducanu, now 23, said he felt he needed someone with WTA Tour experience, but nearly five years and a string of short-term appointments later, Raducanu turned to Richardson again.

“I’m grateful to have reunited with someone who has known me for over 10 years, and I look forward to building it together, one step at a time,” said Raducanu.

This continues a pattern of Raducanu backing coaches he worked with and felt he could trust before his rapid rise to superstardom.

Richardson preceded and continues to follow in the footsteps of Nick Cavaday and Mark Petchey, but she frequently turns to another former coach, Jane O’Donoghue, for support and advice.

Raducanu caused a stir when he practiced with Richardson for a week at Spain’s Ferrer Tennis Academy last month.

At the time, she downplayed talk of a permanent reunion, previously saying she was not actively looking to replace her most recent coach, Francisco Roig, who she parted ways with after the Australian Open.

Raducanu has played only four tournaments since then, reaching his first final since the US Open in Romania in early February, but contracted the virus in the Middle East and Indian Wells and subsequently decided to withdraw from the tour.

Raducanu missed tournaments in Miami, Linz, Madrid and Rome, but entered Strasbourg as a wild card to spend time on clay before the French Open, which starts on May 24.

She will drop to 37th in the rankings next week and will not be seeded at Roland Garros.
