Eugenio Chacala is fighting for a PGA Tour card through the DP World Tour. On Monday, he withdrew from the US Open final qualifying round during the playoffs to improve his chances in Belgium.

Monday saw the first two U.S. Open final qualifying events take place, with several notable players earning trips to Shinnecock, including Tom Kim and 2010 champion Graeme McDowell. But something strange happened in Dallas, Texas.

The six players were forced into extra holes to determine who would receive the final invitation and two alternate spots. Caleb Surratt’s birdie on the first hole of the playoff sealed his third major championship of the year. The remaining five players all made par and moved on to the next player to determine their replacement. However, according to Monday Q Info (@acaseofthegolf1), former LIV Golf member Eugenio Chacala picked him up and left.

MQI had no idea what happened, but Chakara responded to the tweet saying, “My goal is to get a PGA Tour card on the DP Tour and getting on that plane in preparation for Belgium was the right thing to do for me so I quit.”

Chakara is competing in the DP World Tour’s Soudal Open this week, but had to choose between competing for a replacement spot or avoiding a travel accident. He chose the latter. In the end, Chandler Phillips and Henrik Norlander alternated between securing the two spots.
