Liverpool are reportedly set to make signing a new right-winger one of their biggest priorities this summer, with RB Leipzig youngster Yann Diomande emerging as a likely target to replace Mohamed Salah.
According to the Telegraph, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international is high on Liverpool’s shortlist, with Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon and Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola also being considered.
Diomande reportedly has a release clause worth around £86 million, so this won’t be a cheap gamble.
This feels like a big summer for Liverpool. Salah’s departure left a gaping hole not only in terms of goals, but also in character, fear factor and consistency.
Liverpool considering further investment in attackers
Manager Arne Slott has already admitted that Liverpool need to improve the quality of their wides after a disappointing 2025-26 season, with the wide players not achieving the same level of success as in past title-winning seasons.
That’s why Diomand makes sense as a target. He is young, explosive, direct and is already regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking prospects.
Reports from Germany say Leipzig value the player at around 100 million euros (approximately £86-87 million) and are under no pressure to sell him after qualifying for the Champions League.
However, the risks are clear. Diomande is only 19 years old. He may have great potential, but replacing Salah is one of the most difficult jobs in football.
Liverpool are not only looking for a talented winger, but a player who can ultimately play the biggest attacking role in the Premier League.
The Reds have also identified a replacement for Diomande.
Gordon and Barcola would therefore be interesting alternatives.
Gordon already knows the league well and has speed, aggression and a high work rate, but Newcastle will demand a huge transfer fee.
Barcola, on the other hand, has the technical quality and grace that Liverpool like, but luring him away from PSG will not be easy.
Diomand may be the most exciting option, but he’s also the biggest gamble at a cost.
Gordon feels safer due to his Premier League experience, but Barcora may offer the highest technical ceiling.
Liverpool need not just one, but multiple wingers to replace the impact Salah has brought to the club.
Liverpool are negotiating a deal with Man City for a target of 12 million euros. “Specific discussions” were held.
