Manchester United immediately turned their attention to strengthening their defense after agreeing a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta.

Manchester United aim to sign Juventus star

The Red Devils wasted no time in getting down to business this summer, reaching an agreement worth an initial €40.5m (about £35m) to sign Ederson, which could rise to €45m (about £39m) including potential bonuses. The Atalanta midfielder is the start of what could be an expensive rebuild in the heart of Michael Carrick’s side.

The Brazilian will go down in history as the first signing of the Carrick era, but there will be many more names to join in the coming months.

It is also worth noting that INEOS beat the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool for Ederson’s signature, once again highlighting the appeal of Old Trafford.

This doesn’t seem to be the only win the Red Devils have had against the Spurs this summer. Manchester United have sent officials to join the race for Pierre Carles and are considering signing the Juventus star ahead of interest from the Lilywhites, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The centre-back has been offered a new contract by Turin, but although no deal has been signed yet, expectations remain high that United will sign another Serie A player.

Manchester United’s commitment to signing top talent this summer shows no signs of slowing down.

Interest from Old Trafford means Karl has to make a big decision. He has been linked with an offer from Juventus, but the Red Devils have made no secret of exactly how much they value the 25-year-old, having made inquiries in person.

He is also represented by CAA Stella, the same agency that handled Koby Mainu’s recent new contract at United, which could create a smoother path to negotiations.

Why Manchester United are targeting Pierre Karls

It’s no secret that Man United are focused on signing midfield players this summer. That’s exactly why Ederson was the first player to reach an agreement, and why players like Sandro Tonali and Elliott Anderson remain in the spotlight. But beyond that, they could also use a centre-back who is at the peak of his ability. And Karl is just that.

Harry Maguire is now 33 and nearing the end of his career, Lenny Yolo and Aiden Haven are still young and Matthijs de Ligt is returning from a long-term injury. Karl, on the other hand, is 25 years old and has started 37 of the 38 games he is scheduled to play in Serie A this season.
