West Ham tell Manchester United how much they have to pay for Matheus Fernandes
West Ham have formalized their financial demands for the highly-rated midfielder, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano wrote on X: “Please understand that the price tag for Matheus Fernandes has been revised in talks with the West Ham camp. It is £85m. Manchester United are in contact with the player’s side and more clubs are also cautious and keen.”
Following their recent shocking relegation from the Premier League, the Hammers are under intense pressure to make ends meet and recoup significant sums of money.
West Ham view Fernandes as a generational talent who could develop into one of the best players in the world, but admit it would be unrealistic to keep him in the Championship.
As a result, the London club placed a hefty £85m valuation on their prized asset, sparking a lucrative bidding war.
Manchester United faces competition from Real Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal
United’s leadership group INEOS has already begun contact with the player’s representatives and reports suggest Fernandes is very keen on making his dream move to Old Trafford. But securing his signature is far from easy.
The Red Devils are preparing to take on Europe’s elite as powerhouse clubs surround the young midfielder.
Manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly asked Real Madrid to sign the midfielder, while Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool are also said to be interested.
Newly crowned Premier League champions Arsenal are also said to be monitoring the situation closely and remain mindful of West Ham’s astronomical demands.
Carrick wants to strengthen United’s midfield with new signing Ederson Silva, and the club will be determined to move quickly to sign him.
However, it remains to be seen whether United intend to meet the hefty £85m price tag that West Ham have imposed on their star player.
