Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has spoken out about speculation about a move between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The Spain international, who is currently playing for his country at the World Cup, insists he does not want to think about his future right now.

Cucurella has perhaps been most heavily linked with Atletico Madrid in recent times, with talkSPORT suggesting the La Liga giants are looking to open talks over the 27-year-old.

However, Cucurella himself has made it clear that he does not want to talk about it, saying he has instructed his camp not to mention the transfer for now, replying: “Next question!” When asked whether he would like to join Atleti or Barça…

“I’m happy where I am. I told the camp not to say anything now. I don’t want to know anything,” Cucurella told Partidaso de Cope (translated by Fabrizio Romano).

“Barcelona or Atlético? Next question!”

Should Chelsea keep an eye on Marc Cucurella?

Chelsea fans will have mixed feelings about Cucurella’s situation, but the former Brighton man was clearly the top player on the day.

However, it is also true that he was not always the most consistent performer and there were occasional signs of questionable demeanor.

At this difficult time for Chelsea, Cucurella has been outspoken in the media about the direction of the club, which is understandable, but perhaps not what you would expect from one of the most experienced members of the squad.

“I understand that this is part of the club’s policy and they want to go in the direction of signing young players and looking to the future. But moments like this are disappointing for all of us who are still here and hoping for big wins,” Cucurella told The Athletic after Chelsea’s embarrassing Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in March.

Marc Cucurella’s best option could be to leave Chelsea

From Cucurella’s point of view, he probably feels disappointed in Chelsea’s project and might be better off leaving Stamford Bridge if he wants to win big trophies.

CFC, who finished 10th in the Premier League, are not scheduled to play in Europe again next season, and a player of Cucurela’s caliber will know that time is running out in his relatively short career in the world of football.

If a club like Barcelona or Atletico Madrid were to make a bid for him, that could be his best option for a move, and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea ultimately decide it would be in the best interests of both parties to part ways.
