Liverpool appear to be serious about pursuing quality midfield for the future, with club bosses reportedly visiting New York’s MetLife Stadium to watch Ayyoub Bouadi play.

According to journalist Santi Auna, the Reds went out of their way to evaluate the Lille midfielder and included him on their shortlist.

He is believed to be one of several young midfielders Liverpool are eyeing, with Lamine Kamara also among the names being considered.

It’s not hard to see why Liverpool would be interested. Bouadi has quickly become one of the most talked about young midfielders in Europe, and his performances for Morocco at the 2026 World Cup have only increased the attention around him.

Liverpool are not alone in this competition. This could be the most competitive young signing of the summer, with PSG, Arsenal, Tottenham and several other clubs also monitoring his development.

A recent report in the Guardian highlighted his outstanding performance against Brazil, showing maturity beyond his years in midfield.

Reuters also praised his calmness and rapid growth since switching international alliances from France to Morocco before the tournament.

For Arsenal, he fits the profile of a long-term midfield investment.

For PSG, he is another chance to secure an elite French-bred talent. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also looking to build a younger, more dynamic squad.

Why Liverpool could make an early move

From Liverpool’s point of view, acting early could be important.

Bouadi is only 18 years old, but he already plays with the composure of a senior midfielder. He is strong, strong in press, technically clean and courageous enough to receive the ball in tight spaces.

His contract situation also makes him valuable. Liverpool have been rebuilding wisely in recent years and this feels like the kind of deal that suits their recruitment model. That means he’s young, has a high ceiling, and could quickly become much more expensive.

For now, interest is at the scouting and shortlist stage, but the fact that Liverpool have sent an executive to keep an eye on him speaks volumes.
