The 30th annual Wisconsin Women’s Open is being held at Sentry World in Stevens Point, one of the state’s premier public golf courses, and only one player finished under par in the first round on June 15. Hannah Dunk of Janesville shot a 1-under 71 on the 6,046-yard course to finish the first day with a one-stroke lead over Peyton Haugen of Elm Grove.

Dunk, who plays at North Dakota State University, had five birdies and four bogeys on the course that hosted the 2023 U.S. Senior Open. Haugen had three bogeys and three birdies.

Professional Bobby Stricker is tied with Julia Imai at 1 over, two strokes behind. Stricker tied for 37th at the Texas Women’s Open in late May. Imai, playing for University Stout, tied Dunk for the most birdies on the day with five.

McKenna Nelson (Beaver Dam) is alone in fifth place with two overs, while Izzy Stricker (Madison), Nora Roberts (Racine), Emma Cunningham (Green Bay), Laura Appleby (Mequon), Rebecca Klonglund (Stoughton) and pro Mackenzie Hearn (Spring Grove) are all within four strokes of the lead at three overs.

The field will play 18 holes on June 16, after which it will be shortened to a 24-score tie in the first half. The final 18 holes will be played on June 17th.
