Let’s take a closer look at Tottenham’s 10 most expensive signings…
10
mickey van de ven
£43 million from Wolfsburg
Center back Micky van de Ven, who joins north London in 2023, was signed from Wolfsburg for a deposit of just under £35m, but his total could rise to £43m.
He quickly impressed in the Premier League with his speed and power at the back and everything is going well to keep him at Spurs until at least 2029.
9
brennan johnson
£47.5 million from Nottingham Forest
On contract deadline day in September 2023, Brennan Johnson joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest for £47.5m.
The Wales international, who can play anywhere in the front three, was contracted until 2028, but was sold to Crystal Palace in January 2026.
8
Xavi Simmons
£52m from RB Leipzig
Spurs moved to take over Xavi Simmons’ contract with Chelsea in the summer of 2025 after losing out on Ebelesi Eze to rivals Arsenal.
The Dutch attacker penned a five-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, taking over the number seven shirt after Son Heung-min left for America.
7
Jan Paul van Hecke
£52m from Brighton
One of the first signings of Tottenham’s rebuild under manager Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian was snapped up at the start of the 2026 summer transfer window for a whopping £52m, a player he knew well from his time at Brighton.
He was one of a handful of defensive additions that summer, including Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson.
6
muhammad jerusalem
£55m from West Ham
Another player who attracted attention after Spurs won the Europa League in 2025 was Mohamed Kudus.
Tottenham, who signed him from London rivals West Ham, paid the Ghanaian winger £55 million on a six-year contract with a weekly wage of £150,000.
5
Richarlison
£60 million from Everton
After impressing in England with Watford and Everton, Tottenham decided to spend an initial £50m on Richarlison in 2022, with his transfer fee potentially reaching a total of £60m including add-ons.
The Brazilian had a difficult first season, scoring just one goal in 27 Premier League games. However, he has shown glimpses of brilliance in north London and has a contract until 2027.
4
Tanguy Ndombele
£62.8 million from Lyon
Midfielder Tanguy Ndombele became Tottenham’s all-time favorite when he joined in 2019, but his move from Lyon did not go well.
Signing Mauricio Pochettino just months before the Argentine was sacked turned out to be the wrong decision by the Spurs manager.
The Frenchman penned a six-year contract worth a whopping £55m, which could rise to £62.8m with add-ons. However, Ndombele was released from his contract in 2024 after making 91 appearances and struggling for England.
3
Dominic Solanke
£65m from Bournemouth
Tottenham’s record striker signing is Dominic Solanke, who joined from Bournemouth in the summer of 2024.
The former Chelsea and Liverpool attacker could end up costing £65m including add-ons, with Solanke under contract until 2030.
2
Matthew Fernandes
£85 million from West Ham
In the summer of 2026, Spurs made a major effort to improve their squad after coming close to being relegated to the Championship. Despite interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, the Lilywhites beat out two of the Premier League’s elite clubs to sign the young Portuguese midfielder from West Ham.
1
Sandro Tonali
£100 million from Newcastle
Spurs have never paid £100m for a player before, but they did just that to sign Tonali from Newcastle in 2026. For one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, it was a phenomenal signing, one that would stand up the division and attract attention.
De Zerbi knows Tonali well, as the two are from the same Italian town of Brescia.
