Tielemans’ links with the Red Devils have been heavily linked in recent days, and now it has been officially announced on ManUtd.com.

Wilcox was clearly delighted with the addition of Tielemans and outlined three qualities the 29-year-old would add to the United squad: calmness, creativity and leadership.

“Yuri has consistently been one of the most outstanding midfielders in the Premier League over the past seven years. He has all the technical qualities as well as the ambition and mentality to succeed at Manchester United,” Wilcox said in a club statement.

“Yuri’s stability is exceptional and he will add even more calm, creativity and leadership to our team. We are delighted to welcome a player of his influence and experience both on the pitch and in the dressing room as we continue to build a team ready to challenge for the biggest honours.”

Tielemans isn’t the youngest player and probably won’t always be the most consistent performer, but there’s no doubting the quality he brings when he’s really on form.

This was highlighted in a statement from United, explaining that the former Monaco youngster was really good when it came to line-breaking passes last season.

United said: “Among attackers and midfielders, Tielemans has broken through the defensive line the most per 100 passes in the Premier League and completed the second-most line-breaking passes under pressure.”

While this may not sound like the most eye-catching detail, it’s a statistic that managers love, and one that will no doubt help the rest of this United team shine even more next season.

This is the kind of quality of the ball that MUFC probably didn’t have last season, and it should help Michael Carrick, who has already done a great job as interim manager, improve this team.
