Chelsea ‘optimistic’ to sign ‘proactive’ 14-goal star

Chelsea are interested in signing Brighton striker Danny Welbeck this summer.

According to a reporter from The Athletic, the Seagulls are considering signing the 35-year-old striker, who is in the final year of his contract. It remains to be seen whether they can negotiate a reasonable deal to get the signing over the line.

Meanwhile, Ben Jacobs claimed Chelsea are optimistic about a deal being completed and the player is keen to complete the move. The former Manchester United striker will be thrilled at the prospect of playing for one of the world’s biggest clubs again.

Jacobs writes of X:Chelsea are optimistic about signing Danny Welbeck. Negotiations are already underway and Welbeck is keen on a move.“

Chelsea need more depth in their attack and this could be a solid signing in the short term. Welbeck could support Joao Pedro in attack next season. Liam Delap was very underwhelming last season and Chelsea need more options at their disposal.

The 35-year-old will create chances for his teammates and will also help score goals. He scored 14 goals for the Seagulls last season, and that number could improve even more by playing on a team with better creators.

Given his contract situation, a nominal investment would be possible. He knows the Premier League well and could make an immediate impact at Chelsea. The Blues had a disappointing season last year but are looking to bounce back strongly. They need a better quality team to get back on track.

The 35-year-old is an important player for Brighton and they won’t want to lose him too easily, but his contract situation is putting pressure on them. Rather than lose him for free next year, it would make sense for the club to sell him for a reasonable amount this summer and replace him appropriately.
