Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate was opened about his future and potential contract extensions with the club.

The 25-year-old defender finished his contract next summer, and Liverpool offered him a new deal. However, the parties have not yet finalized their contract. The defender now reveals that his agent has already met with the club and they made an offer to him.

The player did not accept the club’s offer and presented a counter offer. He also revealed that everything else circulating on social media was completely fake and never agreed to a new deal with the club.

There were rumours that he could consider running down his contract and leaving for free. The defender also tickled such rumours.

He said (H/T Independent): “My agent met the club last week and I don’t know what will happen.

“I can’t say what my agent told me, but yeah, we’ll see what happens.

“I just want to say one thing. Everything I saw on social media is completely fake. I didn’t ask for anything from the club.

“They made an offer to me, and I answered them with something, that is, with the rest I want to wait until the end of (his contract).

“In November (it was alleged) I was very close to signing a contract. ‘Yeah, they have more information than I do.”

He is definitely an important player for the club. Liverpool needs to hold onto him. Aside from being a top defender, he is one of the leaders of the dressing room. Liverpool wants to fight for the main trophies and they need to maintain a player of his quality.
