Saurav Gurjar, known in WWE as Sanga, has been arrested in India and placed in 14 days of judicial custody following allegations from a woman who claims he misled her with false marriage promises. Gurjar was stopped by immigration officials at Mumbai airport on the night of September 17 when he arrived from the Middle East, after Hyderabad police issued a Look Out Circular against him. He was then brought to Hyderabad on September 19 and presented before a magistrate, who ordered his judicial custody on September 20, according to the Hindustan Times.
Inspector K. Saidulu from Gachibowli police confirmed the arrest, explaining that Gurjar was intercepted at Mumbai airport after the Look Out Circular was issued. The police then transported him to Hyderabad where the magistrate remanded him into custody.
The complaint was filed on August 15 by a 29-year-old woman who stated that she first connected with Gurjar on Instagram in 2021, and they communicated via WhatsApp. She alleges that during their initial face-to-face meeting on December 25, 2021, Gurjar promised to marry her. The woman claims he convinced her to quit her job in the United States with the assurance they would start a business together. However, whenever she brought up marriage, Gurjar reportedly blocked her and avoided contact. She also stated that they lived together in Hyderabad from October 2025 to March 2026, after which he abruptly cut off communication without explanation.
Authorities filed the case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with sexual relations obtained through deceit, including false promises of marriage. The investigation is ongoing, and the accusations have yet to be proven in court. Gurjar has not made any public statements regarding the matter.
Gurjar, 42, joined WWE in 2018 and made his NXT debut in 2019 as Saurav before being renamed Sanga. He formed the tag team Indus Sher with Rinku (later Veer Mahaan), holding the NXT Tag Team Championship before moving to WWE’s main roster on Raw in 2022 alongside Jinder Mahal. He was released from WWE in 2024.
Prior to wrestling, Gurjar was a kickboxer and actor, known for playing Bhima in the 2013 Star Plus series Mahabharat, Ravan and Bali in Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman, and the antagonist Zor in the 2022 film Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. In February 2025, he returned to Indian television in the show Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyag Tandav.
