As the Chicago Sky face off against the Dallas Wings on Thursday, seasoned guard Courtney Vandersloot is on the verge of making history. She is just nine points shy of becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, a record currently held by her wife, former Chicago guard Allie Quigley.

Quigley and Vandersloot first met while playing for the Sky and have been married since 2018. Quigley wrapped up her WNBA career in 2022 with 3,723 points scored over ten seasons with Chicago.

Before the game, Vandersloot humorously spoke with the WNBA about the unique dynamic of chasing a record held by her spouse. She shared that Quigley is fully supportive, saying, “She said that if it had to be someone, she said that was me.”

The two played together throughout Quigley’s entire tenure in Chicago. Vandersloot spent her initial 12 seasons with the Sky before joining the New York Liberty in 2023. After winning a WNBA Championship with New York, she returned to Chicago during the offseason, bringing vital veteran leadership to the younger team. Now, Vandersloot not only has the chance to cement her legacy with the Sky but also to keep the scoring record within her family.

Fan Take: This milestone highlights the unique personal and professional connections in the WNBA, showing how the league fosters close-knit communities. Vandersloot’s pursuit of the record is more than just individual glory—it symbolizes the evolving legacy and deep bonds that drive the sport forward.
