Jannik Sinner 2026 season is over after he posted a message on social media Tuesday saying that he needs treatment for a knee injury.
The five-time Grand Slam champion has not played since winning his second straight Wimbledon title in July. While attempting to play again over the summer, he was forced to withdraw from tournaments in North America and Asia.

In his message, Sinner said that he is cutting his season short with an eye on his long-term career.
“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment on my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner said. “The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different.
“But at the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career. I will do everything possible to get back to 100 percent. I will thank you already in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon on court again.”

Sinner finishes the season with a 44-3 record and six tournament wins. He won five straight ATP Masters 1000 events to start the 2026 season, at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome.
After reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open, Sinner had a career-best 30-match winning streak until he fell to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round of the French Open. The knee injury prevented him from playing in the U.S. Open.
Sinner’s season coming to an end means that Alexander Zverev will likely finish the season at No. 1.
Zverev’s two tournament victories this year came at the French Open and U.S. Open. He also reached the finals at Wimbledon and the Madrid Open, as well as five semifinals, including the Australian Open.
