The WNBA team recently made coaching changes following coverage by Athlon Sports after their victory over Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever. The Fever have experienced a tough stretch with three straight losses, bringing their season record to 2-4.

Indiana faced off against the Connecticut Sun on Friday night, but their star player is sidelined due to a left quadriceps injury, with early reports suggesting she could be out for about two weeks. In that game, the Fever narrowly lost to the Sun 85-83. Within a day of the game, the Sun announced a significant restructuring of their coaching staff.

Roneka Hodges has been promoted to associate head coach after starting the season as an assistant coach for Connecticut. Although new to the Sun organization this year, Hodges brings extensive experience from women’s basketball.

Prior to joining the Sun, Hodges coached for the New York Liberty, Colgate University, and Old Dominion University. She also played professionally from 2005 to 2019, including 11 WNBA seasons with teams like the Houston Comets, Minnesota Lynx, San Antonio Silver Stars, Atlanta Dream, Tulsa Shock, and Indiana Fever. Over her career, Hodges averaged 6.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

As the Sun update their coaching lineup, the Indiana Fever focus on the recovery of Kate Linklark. The Fever currently hold a 0-2 record without Clark, who leads the team with 19.0 points and 9.3 assists per game, leaving a significant gap in the team’s lineup.

Fan Take: This coaching shakeup and injury update highlight the dynamic challenges WNBA teams face mid-season. For fans, it underscores the resilience and adaptability needed for teams to succeed and keeps the league exciting as new talents and leadership roles emerge.
