Dominate Yankees to the Point Where Even Shoe-Hei Nods Off in Dugout

The much-anticipated 2024 World Series rematch was far less thrilling on Saturday as the Los Angeles dominated the New York Yankees in a crushing 18-2 victory during the second game of their three-game series. The Yankees struggled with pitching, cycling through eight pitchers, while Aaron Judge was the only player who managed to score for New York. Despite his efforts, the Yankees couldn’t contain the ’ relentless offense, which built a commanding lead, causing designated hitter Shohei Ohtani to seemingly doze off by the sixth inning.

Friday’s game resembled a home run contest, but Saturday’s matchup was even more one-sided. The wasted no time, posting four runs in the first inning and maintaining pressure throughout. Max Muncy crushed his 200th career home run with a three-run shot, pushing LA ahead 7-0 and ending Yankees pitcher Will Warren’s night. Even after Brent Headrick replaced Warren, the Yankees kept suffering, with Tommy Edman hitting an RBI double and Haisen Kim launching a two-run homer to extend the ‘ lead to 10-0.

Judge contributed a solo homer in the fourth inning, marking New York’s only runs, but the responded aggressively in the fifth with Freddie Freeman hitting a sharp double that brought Kim home. Muncy followed with another three-run homer, sending Freeman and Ohtani crossing the plate. Defensively, LA was equally impressive, notably Kim, who excelled at shortstop and center field, thwarting the Yankees’ attempts to score.

With such a huge advantage, Ohtani relaxed enough to catch a brief nap during the game. Known for his long sleep routines and with a newborn at home, this moment added a humanizing touch amid the ’ dominance. Yankees fans might sympathize with either reason rather than the harsh reality of a 13-run deficit halfway through the game.

The weren’t done yet; outfielder Andy Page hit a solo homer in the seventh to extend the lead to 15-1. Judge fought back with a solo homer in the eighth, but the responded with a pinch-hit three-run homer from Dalton Rush, pushing the score to a staggering 18-2. With such a clear lead, many fans left early, and the wrapped up the game by the top of the ninth inning.

The Yankees now have one last opportunity to avoid humiliation in the series finale on Sunday, but given their poor performance, a World Series rematch looks unlikely if they continue at this pace.

Fan Take: This blowout highlights the ‘ offensive prowess and depth, signaling they could be a formidable contender this season. For baseball fans, it underscores the unpredictability and excitement of the sport, reminding us why every game counts in setting the tone for future championships.
