Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner is facing a difficult period at the City Ground, with the Austrian delivering an explosive assessment of his side’s struggles following their latest Premier League defeat.
Forest were beaten 2-0 by Brentford on Saturday, leaving them 19th in the table after losing five of their opening nine league matches.
Glasner has now called for significant changes behind the scenes, even suggesting that another managerial appointment could follow if his demands are not met.
Oliver Glasner delivers Nottingham Forest bombshell after Brentford defeat
Glasner did not hold back in his assessment of Forest’s situation following their latest setback, admitting that his approach needs to change if the club are to climb away from the relegation zone.
“We have to accept it’s not good enough. If we lose four of the last five games, it’s not good enough. And that’s why for me, it’s now time that we change things, that I change things, and that’s what I will do.
“I feel now maybe I made too many compromises in some stuff, and it’s always compromises. It’s a clear way. I will tell [the players] what we want to do, what we have to do, and if the players buy in, I think we can have a turnaround, and if not, the sixth manager [since the start of last season] will come in.”
The former Crystal Palace boss also questioned the wider situation at Forest, insisting that he would no longer compromise on his methods.
“So you need to change and rebuild from the bottom to the top,” he said.

“And this is clear for me. And this is what I will do. And without any compromises. Zero. Zero. And if these things don’t work, they will let me know [about my exit].”
Glasner added that he was determined to succeed at the City Ground, but warned that the club’s problems could not be solved by one individual.
“There is no compromise. Either you buy in where we want to go as a club. Because, and I mentioned it, if you’re three times struggling, four or five Premier League seasons, struggling, being at the bottom of the league, there is a pattern.
“And I just know that Oliver Glasner is not here for five years.”
Nottingham Forest have no plans for Nuno Espírito Santo return
Glasner’s comments have inevitably raised questions about his future, particularly given Forest’s recent history of changing managers.
Nuno Espírito Santo is among those currently available, having been sacked by West Ham on Tuesday following a disappointing start to their Championship campaign.
The Portuguese enjoyed a successful spell at the City Ground, guiding Forest into European football before leaving in September 2025.
His previous achievements have made him an obvious name to consider amid the uncertainty surrounding Glasner, especially with the 52-year-old now searching for his next opportunity.
However, Football FanCast sources understand that Nottingham Forest are not currently considering bringing Nuno back to the club.
There are no plans for a reunion despite his availability, with Forest seemingly prepared to continue under Glasner rather than revisit a previous appointment.
Nuno’s managerial credentials have previously earned praise from José Mourinho, who described his fellow Portuguese coach as doing “really, really amazing work” and having “one of the best teams from a tactical point of view”.
Nevertheless, a return to Forest does not appear to be on the agenda at this stage.
Sean Dyche backs Oliver Glasner as Forest consider their future
Former Forest manager Sean Dyche has also weighed in on Glasner’s position, urging the club to show patience rather than make another change.
Dyche, who is among several high-profile managers currently out of work, reflected on his own dismissal and the difficulties Forest experienced during his tenure in a recent social media post.
“Nottingham Forest are still finding the goals hard to come by. And I had it along with my staff, we scored but nowhere near what the metrics were telling us. So not enough to stay in our job?
“We had 35 efforts at goal [versus] wolves and yet 0-0 result and culminated in myself [and] staff being sacked. I hope Oliver is given more time and the fans stay with him and the players stand up and be counted?????”
Glasner does appear to retain the support of those above him, with Sky Sports reporting that Forest’s hierarchy have welcomed his strong reaction to the Brentford defeat.
For now, another managerial change does not appear imminent, despite Forest’s concerning start to the season and the number of experienced coaches available.
