Folarin Balogun, a forward for the United States men’s national team, has now been included in Monaco’s roster for the Conference League after previously being omitted due to uncertainty regarding his future.
His name appeared among the forwards on UEFA’s official squad list on Tuesday. Ansu Fati, who was injured during a match against Lille on October 25 and is expected to be out for two months, has been removed from the list.
This season, Balogun has primarily played as a substitute for Monaco, participating in five matches and netting his first goal during a 3-1 defeat against Paris FC on Sunday.

Balogun came close to a transfer to Everton for roughly 40 million pounds ($54 million) on the last day of the summer transfer window but ultimately decided against it due to discomfort over the club questioning his health during a medical evaluation.
Following this, he was excluded from Monaco’s Conference League squad as the club considered selling him to other leagues where the transfer window remained open. However, that move did not occur.
These developments followed a World Cup campaign where Balogun, who was a standout player for the U.S. team, found himself at the center of a significant controversy after receiving a red card during their round-of-32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His suspension was temporarily lifted by FIFA following an intervention from U.S. President Donald Trump, who contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss a review of the red card.
Balogun was subsequently allowed to compete in the round of 16, where the U.S. suffered a defeat to Belgium in a match he did not particularly excel in.
Monaco began the Conference League with two consecutive victories over CSKA Sofia and Freiburg, and they have upcoming matches against FC Nordsjælland, Hearts, Brighton, and Lincoln Red Imps in the tournament’s 36-team league phase.

Fan Take: Balogun’s inclusion in Monaco’s squad is significant not only for his personal career but also for American soccer, as it showcases the rising global profile of U.S. players in Europe. His performance could also influence the national team’s dynamics as they gear up for future tournaments.
