Paul Wight revealed that over the past seven years, he has undergone 11 surgeries, including procedures on both knees and hips, yet he has never truly stepped away from wrestling. Speaking with Scott Johnson on News4JAX’s Going Ringside, Wight clarified that despite rumors, he remains committed to the sport and is actively working to make a comeback.
“I haven’t stepped away at all. I’ve had 11 surgeries in seven years, on both knees and hips. I’m not in pain, just focusing on losing weight and getting myself back in shape. At 54, it’s a little tougher,” Wight explained. He emphasized that he doesn’t want to return to the ring before he’s fully ready. “The last thing I want is to come back and look like Old Yeller—like a liability out there. So I’m carefully addressing years of wear and tear, tightening everything up to enjoy wrestling again,” he added.
Since signing with AEW in February 2021, Wight has served as a commentator on AEW Collision and recently hinted at a potential in-ring return at the Dynamite: Beach Break event in July. AEW will also be in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday, November 4, for Dynamite: Blood and Guts, airing live on TBS and HBO Max.
We wish Paul Wight a smooth and successful recovery.
