Legacy Motor Club, co-owned by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, has welcomed several new investors to its ownership team. Johnson shared in a team statement, “I aimed to unite individuals who understand what it takes to create and maintain something remarkable. These investors have competed, innovated, taken risks, and led teams. Though from diverse backgrounds, they all believe in LEGACY’s potential. Our goal is winning, and this group brings essential insights to help build the organization that can achieve that.”
The new investors include:
- Danny Sullivan — Indianapolis 500 winner and CART champion
- Ben Lovett — Founding member of the band Mumford & Sons
- Michael Wystrach — Co-Founder of Freshly and Petfolk
- Nat Zilkha — Executive Chairman of Gibson, Inc. and Co-Founder of Firebird Music
- Tim Headington — Entrepreneur with ventures in hospitality, real estate, and film
- Johnathan Crocker — Co-Founder of Frank August and Thousand Acres
Additional contributors include Jim Brown, Ellie Franchitti, Nick Hanauer, John T. McCoy, Bart Proctor, Andy Reiner, Tommaso Sandretto, Richie Schmock, Alex Song, and Jamie Tisch. This expanded group joins earlier partners such as IndyCar stars Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan, and Scott Dixon, along with country singer Darius Rucker, celebrity chef Guy Fieri, and sports icons Chase Utley and Andy Roddick.
Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons emphasized the power of community founded on shared passion, stating, “Through music and creating inclusive spaces, I’ve seen how connection thrives. What excites me about LEGACY is building that same sense of belonging within racing, inviting people into the rich world beyond just the race itself.”
Looking ahead, Legacy Motor Club plans to grow into a three-car team by 2027, entering Josh Berry in the No. 42 car, Erik Jones in the No. 43, and Riley Herbst in the No. 84. Meanwhile, Jimmie Johnson will make his final Daytona 500 start driving the No. 48.
Fan Take:
This influx of diverse and high-profile investors signals a fresh wave of energy and innovation for NASCAR. By combining racing legends with entrepreneurs and cultural figures, Legacy Motor Club could redefine fan engagement and elevate the sport’s profile for years to come.
