Former Cowboy and DC Defenders Cornerback Kelvin Joseph Arrested Following Fatal Crash Near Dallas

Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph Jr. was taken into custody on Saturday following a fatal accident near Dallas, according to several sources. Joseph, who has not participated in NFL games since 2023 and is now with the UFL team DC Defenders, was involved in a collision that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old woman riding a motorcycle early Saturday morning.

Police arrived at the scene shortly before 5 a.m. to find the woman deceased. About half an hour later, Joseph contacted authorities, admitting his involvement in the accident. Local officials suspect he was intoxicated at the time.

According to Richardson Police Department records, Joseph was arrested just before 8 a.m. and charged with a fatal crash under the influence. He is currently held by Richardson PD without bond.

The UFL issued a brief statement to WFAA, acknowledging the incident and saying they are collecting information but have no further comment at this time.

Joseph was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and played two seasons in Dallas. Since 2023, he’s moved among several teams and was on a training squad in 2024 before signing with the DC Defenders in February. The UFL playoffs are scheduled to begin this weekend, with Joseph’s team facing the St. Louis Battle Hawks on Sunday.

Fan Take: This troubling incident highlights how the off-field actions of players can drastically affect their careers and the leagues they represent. For NFL fans, it serves as a somber reminder that athlete conduct matters beyond the game, and the league’s image and player safety protocols must remain a priority.
