Veteran NFL wide receiver Chris Conley has stepped away from professional football to follow his passion for filmmaking. On Saturday, Conley took to Instagram to announce his retirement from the NFL, sharing a series of photos highlighting his decade-long career while looking ahead to his future plans.

Conley reflected, “As a kid, I set a goal to play in the NFL for 10 years. Now that I’ve accomplished that, it’s time to focus on a new chapter.” According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Conley will be returning to the University of Georgia to pursue a degree in film production.

He expressed gratitude for his time in the league, saying, “The last 10 years have been a dream. It was an honor to play in the NFL, give my all to score touchdowns and support my team. While I can’t name everyone who helped me grow as a player and person, I deeply appreciate my teammates, trainers, and coaches for their friendship and trust over the years.”

Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round in 2015, Conley spent his first four seasons with the team before playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans over the next four years. After a short time with the Tennessee Titans, he concluded his career with the San Francisco 49ers, playing in 15 games and recording six catches for 76 yards. Over his career, the former Georgia Bulldog amassed 226 receptions for 2,998 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Fan Take: Chris Conley’s retirement marks the end of a solid and inspiring NFL career, reminding fans of the dedication it takes to reach the league’s highest level. His move into film could open up new avenues for athletes to share their stories and talents beyond the football field, enriching the sport’s cultural impact.
