2025 Big Bet Report: Two Players Strike Big with Seven-Figure Lightning Wins on the NBA Finals

The NBA Finals betting scene is heating up, with some big names placing major wagers. Notably, Jay-Z bet $1 million on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the series in five games at +230 odds, a wager he can comfortably afford as he’s a partner in Fanatics Sportsbook. Despite Indiana’s narrow 111-110 victory in Game 1, making Jay-Z’s bet a tough one to cash, if the Thunder win the next four games, his payout would total $3.3 million.

Before Game 1, two large bets totaling over $1.25 million were placed on Oklahoma City to win the series, but Indiana’s comeback in Game 1 has made these bets riskier. DraftKings customers have a $13 parlay bet on several sports outcomes, including the Thunder winning the NBA Finals and the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers capturing the Stanley Cup, with a potential payout of around $270,000. Similarly, FanDuel has a six-leg futures parlay running with a modest wager that could pay out over $94,000 if Oklahoma City and Edmonton win their titles.

Indiana supporters who bet $1,000 on the Pacers at the start of the playoffs are now just three wins away from an $85,000 payoff after Indiana’s impressive Game 1 comeback. Additionally, Caesars Sportsbook offers a prop bet on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to make two or more three-pointers each game of the Finals, offering juicy odds for bettors. Meanwhile, a high-risk bet is on Chet Holmgren to be the Finals’ top scorer at 150/1 odds, though his Game 1 performance suggests it’s a long shot.

Fan Take: This surge of high-stakes bets, especially from influential figures like Jay-Z, reflects growing interest and excitement around the NBA Finals, adding an extra layer of drama for fans. It shows how sports betting is becoming intertwined with the NBA experience, potentially increasing fan engagement and investment in the outcomes beyond just watching the games.
