Former Seattle Kraken forward Carson Kuhlman has inked a one-year deal with SHL club Rögle BK.

The 29-year-old appeared in 39 games over two seasons with the Kraken, accumulating three goals, eight assists, and a total of 11 points. Kuhlman hasn’t played in the NHL over the past two seasons; instead, in 2023-24, he suited up for the New York Islanders’ AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders, and also competed with Lukko in Finland’s top league, Liiga. In his debut Finnish season, the American right winger notched 21 goals and 46 points across 60 games.

Kuhlman becomes the second ex-NHL player to join Rögle BK recently, following defender Mark Friedman, who previously played for the Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

“Carson brings a wealth of experience, including a year in Europe,” stated Rögle’s sports director Hampas Shestrom. “He’s a versatile player who contributes across all areas of the game and is dedicated to battling for pucks around the net.”

Before starting his NHL journey, Kuhlman won a national championship against Minnesota Duluth. Over 147 NHL games, he recorded 12 goals and 30 points, splitting his time between the Boston Bruins, Seattle Kraken, and Winnipeg Jets.

Fan Take: Kuhlman’s move to Rögle BK highlights the growing trend of NHL talent enriching European leagues, which elevates global competition and offers fans more dynamic, diverse hockey action. This transfer not only bolsters Rögle BK’s lineup but also underscores the increasing interconnectedness between North American and European hockey.
