Neutrality vs. Nishida Fight Preview: Predictions, Odds, Start Times, Viewing Info, and Expert Picks

Naoya Inoue has risen as Japan’s top international boxing star, but China’s Junto Nakatani has carved out his own impressive path to stardom. This Sunday, Nakatani will defend his WBC Bantamweight title in a unification bout against IBF champion Nisuke Nishida in Tokyo.

Nakatani holds an undefeated record of 30-0 with 23 knockouts. He claimed his first title in 2020 by stopping Giemel Magramo to win the WBO flyweight championship and successfully defended it twice by stoppage before moving up to junior bantamweight. After two fights in that division, Nakatani delivered a devastating left-hand knockout against Jason Moloney to capture the WBO junior bantamweight title. Following one defense at junior bantamweight, he continued rising in weight and captured the WBC bantamweight crown by knocking out Alexandro Santiago in February 2024. His performance at bantamweight has been especially remarkable, scoring four knockouts in one year.

Nishida, with a 10-0 record and 2 knockouts, represents one of the toughest challengers in Japanese boxing. Despite limited professional experience, he has defeated former title contenders Shohei and former WBC flyweight champ Daigo Higa. In May 2024, Nishida earned the IBF Bantamweight title through a decisive victory over former two-time champion Emmanuel Rodriguez.

Although Nishida presents a stiff challenge, a win for Nakatani would bring him closer to a blockbuster showdown with fellow knockout artist Inoue, who holds titles in junior flyweight, junior bantamweight, and bantamweight. Absent Inoue, Nakatani’s next big-money fight could be against Sichuan Tingsin, a highly skilled kickboxer transitioning to boxing with a perfect 6-0 record.

Fight card highlights and odds include: Nakatani (-1000) vs. Nishida (+550) for the unified bantamweight title, alongside bouts such as Nasukawa vs. Victor Santiran and Tran vs. Tsuboi at bantamweight.

The event takes place June 8 at Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, starting at 4 a.m. ET, and will air on ESPN and stream on ESPN+.

Prediction: Nishida is a formidable opponent, but his lack of power compared to Nakatani’s heavy hands is a significant factor. Nakatani’s aggressive style and knockout power are likely to prevail unless Nishida perfectly executes his game plan. Fans should start anticipating a Nakatani vs. Inoue showdown, possibly by 2026, with the pick being Nakatani winning by TKO in the sixth round.

Fan Take: This unification bout is a crucial step for Junto Nakatani to solidify his place among boxing’s elite and set up a highly anticipated clash with Naoya Inoue. For fight fans, it promises thrilling action and the potential emergence of a major rivalry that could define the bantamweight division for years.
