Chelsea’s transfer activity has been consistently leaking over the last few days, with one club director lifting the lid on a recent call as the Blues pursued another deal.

Chelsea targets new Maresca attackers after failing deadlines

Enzo Maresca was unable to hand over AC Milan’s keeper Mike Maignan or Borussia Dortmund sensation Jamie Gittens the door in time for the looming Club World Cup campaign (Sky Sports).

The people of West London have plenty of players to take the books down.

Chelsea also didn’t have enough time to hit what was a complicated deal for Entracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekicchike, but Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims he’s still a watcher and the West Londoners are continuing their discussions.

In the meantime, it has been reported that Chelsea will prioritize new attackers over the coming weeks, namely the versatile offensive midfielder and second striker on the left after Liam Dellup (Simon Phillips).

Chelsea also had not given up on their hopes of signing the Gitens.

“The hype and briefings of bids sent and rejected for Gitens yesterday afternoon were all exploded and very late,” journalist Simon Phillips said in a recent Substack update.

“Chelsea walked like this before lunch, but the biggest offer we sent was a base rate of £45 million and an add-on of £10 million. This was rejected and Chelsea walked.

This is currently echoed by Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastien Kehl.

Sebastien Kehl reveals Chelsea’s phone call over Jamie Gittens’ signature

The Bundesliga chief shared details behind the negotiations, with Kiel saying Chelsea to resume Giten.

“We spoke on the phone, and we ultimately disagreed because we have a variety of ideas about the players’ current values,” he said.

“Jamie definitely makes our team better. I’m happy he’s there. We’re having a good interaction and seeing how things are shaping in the future.

“Of course, at some point, if you have a player, you need to sell too. I don’t think his market value will drop. I’ll see how much we can keep it up until the end of the tournament. There’s another discussion.”

It is rumoured that Dortmund and Kehl want Gittens as well as £55 million.

Three of the 12 goals for the 20-year-old last season have been in the calendar year, and Gittens has also registered zero assists since the turn of 2025.

It is believed that Chelsea chiefs will appreciate him, but Bruko should also not pay his odds, even if he is Dortmund’s best-selling asset.
