After winning the Premier League title in the 2024/25 campaign, Liverpool has shown no indication that they will slow their ambitions to be a great power again next season.
The Reds scored the title with 10 points and lost four games out of 38, two of which came after they already secured the top spot in Arne Slot’s first season.
It was a year to remember for the club. He reached the next level under the Dutch, and then did so with one senior addition during the window last summer.
However, this time, it appears that the board has significantly supported the managers with the funds to retain the title during the 2025/26 campaign.
Jeremie Frimpong has already been announced as a Reds player, with Milos Kerkez next on the list, but their business doesn’t seem to have stopped anytime soon.
New updates from Liverpool this summer
In recent weeks, strikers have emerged as a key target for slots as strikers are about to land a new amulet to hand over a new amulet with a clinical edge added to Anfield Front 3.
Things like Alexander Isaac, Hugo Ekitique and Victor Gyoker have all been mentioned as potential targets, but up until now, none of them appear to be approaching the move to Merseyside.
However, journalist François Plateau said other parts of the pitch require investment, with midfielder Adam Wharton appearing on the radar recently.
He claims that the Reds have been in contact with representatives of Crystal Palace Star and will explore the 21-year-old’s contract.
Plateau also confirmed that the slot man is not ready to meet the current £60 million price tag on the shoulder.
Why does Wharton sign better than Liverpool’s Wirtz?
Liverpool fans were given another reason to be excited recently after the club agreed to a staggering £16.5 million contract with Bayer Leverkusen for attacking midfielder Florian Wiltz.
The 22-year-old registers with a combination of 22 goals, supporting Bundesliga in this campaign, and after rejecting Manchester City and Bayern Munich, it appears that Slot’s side will win the race of his signature.
Such transactions seem to be set up to cost a significant penny on the board, but it has the potential to add a different dimension to the team and set them up for immediate and long-term success.
Through 2024/25 his record has pushed the Reds to strengthen their own tally by passing on other attackers, making them even more powerful during the slot’s second campaign.
However, Wharton could prove to be a better signature than the Germans. Wirtz has to rival Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai, but the Reds have long missed midfield players, and have been trying to sign things like Moises Caiceceo and Romeo Lavia, especially since Fabinho’s departure.
For a long time, and in the end, Wharton could be a man who transforms Liverpool XI more than Wiltz could. Certainly, comparing his statistics with those of current midfielders Ryan Grasenberch and Alexis Mac Alistair, he was able to outperform them in key areas and further explains why he is a massive addition to the club.
Labeled “World Class” by journalist Luke Weiser Seychelles, the 21-year-old is able to complete more progressive passes around 90, and along with more important passes, he has the ability to support attackers more than he does.

Wharton also thrived defensively, with more intercepts and more recovery than the aforementioned duo, and then provided an additional presence on both ends of the pitch in the slot.
At just 21 years old, overtaking the likes of Mac Allister and Gravenberch is no feat. It emphasizes how impressive he is on the UK top flights and that he has time to improve even more given his tender age.
If he continues his current trajectory, he could become one of the best deep options in football in the world, and now his rumored price tag is still at a good price.
Without a doubt, all the focus and hype is on Wirtz given his English record transfer, but Slot could beat such a move by plotting Wharton’s moves – the pair could lead the club to many titles in the coming years.
