Coco Gough only needed two sets to overcome Teleza Valentois in the second round of Thursday’s French Open.

The American star defeated Czech challengers 6-2, 6-4 on Suzanne Lendgren’s court to advance to the third round. Gauff will face another Czech player on Saturday at Marie Bouzková.

Thursday’s match was the 2018 and 2024 French Open Junior Champions conference. But Goff’s slight age and edge of experience allowed her to wipe out her 18-year-old enemy.

Gauff, 21, used speed to seduce and overcome Velentova. The game plan paid off as second seed Gauff won the first set with three service breaks, including one to secure a set point.

In the second set, Gauff and Velentova recorded 10 service breaks before Gauff broke through for the victory.

The victory means Gauff won 12 of 13 matches against his younger opponent. Goff’s only loss to a young player was against Diana Schneider in the third round of the National Bank in Toronto last August.

Gough has yet to reach the third set of the French Open this year. He beats Oliviaga deck in front of Valentois. Like her, Gauff’s next opponent, Bouzková, overcame his previous two opponents, Anna Kalinskaya and Sonay Kartal, in two sets.

Elsewhere on the women’s side of the tournament, third seed Jessica Pegra won two sets over American Anne Lee, while seventh seed Madison Keys advanced in two sets against British Katie Boulter.
