LONDON – Wimbledon’s two-time runner-up ONS Jabeur retired in her first round match on Monday after taking her latest issue, the medical timeout during an injury-filled season.

Yabul, 30, from Tunisia, stopped playing while tracking Victoria Tomova 7-6 (5), 2-0.

Jabeur was visited by trainers on the first set. At one point she sat in her side job seat and cried out into the towel.

“I didn’t think I was feeling good. I’ve been practicing pretty well over the last few days, but I think these things will happen,” Yabour said afterwards. “I’m pretty sad. Even though it’s been a very tough season for me, it doesn’t really help my confidence and keeps pushing myself. I hope I feel better.”

She lost to Elena Rivakina in the 2022 final and Markta Vondrousova in the 2023 final. Jabeur was also a finalist for the 2022 US Open, losing to Iga Swiatek.

Yabour’s 2024 season ended early due to a shoulder injury, and this year he dealt with leg issues.
