Real Madrid could be preparing one of the most ambitious transfers in football history, with Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise reportedly emerging as their real attacking priority.
According to Marca, Madrid could offer up to 220 million euros for the France international.
This puts the deal at just 2 million euros short of the world record 222 million euros that Paris Saint-Germain paid Neymar in 2017, a move that Sportsnet confirmed at the time.
The paper adds that Madrid’s estimated €150 million offer for Atletico Madrid striker Julián Álvarez was more of a strategic bluff than a serious transfer push.
The idea is said to have been to complicate Barcelona’s pursuit, rather than to truly bring the Argentina international to the Bernabéu.
Why Bayern’s star fits into Real Madrid’s plans
Olise ticked several important boxes for Real Madrid.
He plays naturally on the right flank and is only 24 years old and already has good chemistry with Kylian Mbappé at international level for France.
That connection could be a huge factor as Madrid look to build an attack that can dominate Europe for years.
Bayern Football Works also reported that, although Bayern maintain their intention not to sell him, Madrid’s real focus is on Oliseh, not Alvarez.
Bayern won’t have it easy
The biggest problem is Bayern’s stance.
The German champions see Olise as a key player for their future and are reportedly willing to improve his contract to keep him in Munich.
His contract does not include a release clause, meaning Bayern are in control of the situation. This feels like a move designed to test Bayern’s resolve.
Madrid want to sign the new Galactico, but even 220 million euros may not be enough if Bayern refuse to negotiate.
