Andrea Berta can become a different maker of Arsenal in the transfer market
I found the message coming out of Arsenal during a Newcastle match on Sunday to be very interesting. They certainly did little to keep fans expectation down than in the summer.
Ensuring Josh Croenke that the club will invest in strengthening the team, and both before and after the game, Mikel Arteta insisted that plans for the next window have been set and ready to take action.
The line of interviews with Sky right after full time was particularly eye-catching when he said, “Enjoy a few days (break) and check what’s upstairs, do what they have to do.” It felt like a challenge from the Arsenal manager.
Honestly, that’s not a real surprise as it was just as frustrating as anyone about the lack of business that took place in January. He lacked options, especially in offense, and Arsenal’s Premier League chances have disappeared as a result.
It will never happen again. He knows it and I hope that people above him at the club know it too.
All the sounds we hear certainly suggest that it will be a big summer at Arsenal. There is a lot to do to strengthen teams that are already considered lacking in key areas.
There was high hopes about what needs to be done, and that’s why Andrea Berta was appointed as sports director.
The club considers him to be a different maker when it comes to the market. Someone who allows them to make a deal that they could not have done in the past.
There were many other candidates in the position of sports director, and Arsenal believed that all those who reached the final stage of the process could do a great job in this role.
But Berta stood out from the rest. They are pleased that he has boarded and are extremely excited about the work he can do.
I think we’ll see an important summer at Arsenal.
There are a lot of transactions, both receiving and leaving, and the team refreshes a bit.
I know that fans are confident in hitting the inert seen in the windows these days, but I feel this is different this summer.
Money is spent and attacks are strengthened. It has to be exciting.
Joan Pedro links with Arsenal, but he’s not what they need
I have to admit that the Joao Pedro links we’ve seen recently aren’t very useful to me in terms of excitement.
He’s a good player. He catches my eye every time I see Brighton.
But I’m watching him, and I just don’t think he’s the person this Arsenal team needs right now.
He’s not out and out No. 9 and he’s not a player who really likes to play wide. Both of these positions must be Arsenal’s priorities this summer.
The only way someone like Joan Pedro truly can help Arsenal is whether he signs in in addition to his new No. 9 and new winger.
And we know that Joan Pedro doesn’t come cheap.
Brighton spent about £30 million in 2023 taking him from Watford.
So if it’s an Arsenal follow-up, I would be surprised.
Arsenal saw Mateus Cunya – and is surprised he’s on Manchester United
It appears that Mashwas Kuña will likely head to Manchester United after Arsenal has also recently expressed interest in him.
It was clear he was planning on leaving Wolves this summer, but I was a bit surprised by the move as I thought he would choose a club that is a little more stable than United at this point.
I think it’s a really good move from United. In attacks in particular, they desperately need more quality, with Leben Amorim quickly improving their free attack options.
He’s better than what United has now, but that’s clearly not very difficult.
Arsenal had seen Cunha as a possible option in January, but it hadn’t gone any further.
I think they saw him as a potential opportunity in the market in January, but it became clear that financially it wouldn’t work, and he signed his deal on Molineux anyway.
I have never considered him a possibility this summer. The club clearly has other priorities when it comes to strengthening offensives.
In a way, I think he’s a bit like Joan Pedro in terms of the position he plays. He’s not really a No. 9 or a winger, and those are two positions Arsenal really wants to improve.
Ebeki Eze will move soon, and Arsenal will need to be on top of it
Of course, unless you’re a Manchester City fan, the Cup finals were great over the weekend.
But for almost everyone else who saw it, it was a joy to see Crystal Palace win and fans celebrate their first major trophy.
The scene in the stands was amazing. It was impossible not to touch the feelings overflowing from all those palace followers after a full-time whi. That’s everything about soccer.
It was absolutely no surprise to me to see Eberechi Eze making a difference that day. I thought he was great.
And it wasn’t just his goal, but the way he played the game, especially the second half. He was very clever with the ball whenever he owned.
He’s a great player and I think he’s the perfect fit for this Arsenal team.
He can play on the left side of the offense, but Arsenal clearly needs it, but can also play in the middle.
I don’t know if the club is seriously considering him this summer. I’m not told they are. But if not, they really should be.
He now knows he is ready to take the next step in his career. He will move in soon, even the most enthusiastic palace fans know that.
And if he’s on the market this summer, Arsenal should be in front of the queue.
