Liverpool is likely to enter the market for a new defender in January, but they can also depart during the transfer period.

Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury has shortened Arneslots with Central Defensive until Virgil van Dyke, Ibrahima Conate and Joe Gomez resumed as senior options. When that time comes, it is expected that there will be a move to cover Leoni’s injuries, given that he can go out for the rest of the season.

Mark Guech will be a strong candidate to arrive, but whether someone comes in or not, there is a possibility that Gomez will end his long stay at Anfield.

According to Calciomercato, AC Milan hopes to sign Gomez in January and is already ready for a move to be released. The 28-year-old, who has played only 29 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, was sought by Rossoneri in the summer, but his contract was blocked by slots.

Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton in the summer of 2015, and in total, he made 244 appearances for the Premier League champions. However, his time at the club is certain to end in the next 12 months, given that at least one central defender will arrive at the end of the current season or the end of the season.

Gomez has been suffering from injuries for some time and Liverpool will feel that 2026 is the right time to move him. However, it’s surprising that an exit will be agreed in January, unless Leoni’s recovery is found to be faster than expected. In addition to this, you will need to bring in a replacement.
