Rory McIlroy has promised to play in the first Indian Championship on the DP World Tour, marking his first professional competition in the country.

The $4 million event will be contested at Delhi Golf Club from October 16th to October 19th. It will be held three weeks after the Ryder Cup.

“I’m excited to not only be teasing it in India for the first time, but also to visit a country I’ve always wanted to explore,” McIlroy said in a news release.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing a global schedule. As I said before, there’s the possibility of developing more golf in this country. This is a great opportunity and I can’t wait to play in front of Indian golf fans.”

McIlroy, 36, completed his career grand slam in a Masters victory last month. He is second in the official world golf rankings.
