The former Boston Celtics superstar responds to a take on LeBron James’ season collapse and points out what he’s missing

The Boston Celtics legend shared his views on LeBron James’ recent “boring” take on the franchise.

Winning an NBA title is the ultimate goal for any team in the league. The Boston Celtics made it happen in 2024, when the franchise won its first title since 2008.

But what is better than winning one ring? Well, that’s what it’s like to be repeated as an NBA champion. Many were hoping that C would become the first team since the Golden State Warriors achieved this feat this season.

However, the Celtics were eliminated in the second round at the hands of the New York Knicks.

The Celtics had the same roster in the 2024-25 NBA season, but were unable to achieve the same level of success in the postseason.

La Lakers superstar Lebron James recently claimed that the current Celtics players felt “bored” by their greatness, which led to their end. Franchise legend Paul Pierce shared two cents in James’ take.

“I’m to some extent (I agree), especially compared to last year, when they lost to Golden State, saying, “Look, I let one go a few years ago.”

“You’re going to win the title in a compelling way now too,” Pierce said before explaining the changing trends for the Celtics this season.

“I think they stepped into the gas because in the past they were hungry to win. Now they’ve won, so they punch you, but they don’t punch (hoping to get punched),” he added.

But does Pierce agree to James’ Celtics take? Well, yes, no.

“They made it more satisfying than boredom.”

Pierce still believes the Celtics are happy, but his co-hosted Keyshaun Johnson didn’t write his words about the team’s low-achieving season.

“When you start thinking about self-satisfaction and boredom, it’s essentially the same for me because you come in the season and your eyes repeat the awards and that’s what you want to do.

“If they had looked at the awards repeatedly, you’d heard a lot of it, ‘Oh, we want to repeat it.’ You really didn’t hear coming out of Boston throughout the season or at the end of the season.

“…The Celtics never said that they weren’t. Last year it seemed like they had just had a happy victory.

Johnson gave some persuasive points about the Celtics’ poor mentality heading into the season. Celtics fans hope the stars will learn from their mistakes and make a comeback next season.
