ons jabeur: French Open Men’s Schedule “Sad”

Paris-ONS Jabeur strongly criticized the decision from the French open organizer for prioritizing men’s matches in the late evening slots of Frent Philippe-Chatrier.

The first four days of the 2025 tournament will feature men’s matches in slots, a separate ticketing session that starts at 8:15pm local time.

Since the introduction of night sessions in 2022, only two of the 33 games have been singled by women. Conversely, Philippe Chatelier’s first match on the court usually plays in front of a sparse crowd, with all four openers being female singles this year.

Jabeur, who said players deserved “better scheduling” after several matches took place over midnight last year, criticised the decision to choose only men’s matches for night sessions after a first round loss to Magdalena Fletch on Tuesday.

“It’s still sad that we’re still watching this,” Yabour said. “I stand in my words.

“In Europe, it’s generally unfortunate for women’s sports, not tennis, but generally in general. I hope there are people making decisions. I don’t think I have a daughter because I don’t want to treat her like this.

“You know, that’s a bit ironic. They don’t show women’s sports, they don’t show women’s tennis, they ask, “Yeah, but most of them look at men.” Of course, they see more because you show more men.

“It’s a shame from the Federation, a shame from Prime, anything called TV, a lot of great players, they deserve to be there. They were Naomi (Osaka) and Paula (Badsa), it was an incredible match.

Javert’s criticism comes a day after Jills Moreton, president of the French tennis federation, suggested that the decision to make a night match was directed at fans.

“Schedule is one of the key points of the tournament,” Morton said. “Sometimes you have to think about what’s good for the audience, and that’s why you have to make a few choices.”

Yabul said: “I don’t know what fans he’s talking about. I know I’m a fan. I’ll watch that match.”
