We are a few days away from the start of the WNBA season. There are many new faces in the new location, but one remains the same. Winsidr’s power rankings are back.
As a reminder, the following rankings are a collection of WinSIDR teams. We vote for teams to vote regularly throughout the regular season about where each team stands.
Currently, all teams are 0-0, but only one team can keep their power rankings number one to cut off the season.
enjoy!
13. Golden State Valkyrie
Valkyries will first make their appearance in the power rankings, and they will nurture the rear, as expected from the expansion team. There are many ways to build a franchise, but Golden State chose to build international talent with the aim of winning the championship in its third to fifth year. That’s not this year, but the team’s younger make-up shows it. Head coach Natalie Nakaze said that after the first preseason game he is pleased with the team’s offensive show, but there is still a way to go defensively. They will likely become jockeys to establish lottery positions throughout the season.
12. Washington’s mystic
The Mystics received a mini-rebuild in 2024 and in 2025 he was even younger with three first-round picks in the WNBA Draft (picks 3, 4, and 6). In the youth-injected roster, the main goal of the mystic this year is to look at how all of the pieces fit, especially the younger cores of Sonia Citron, Kiki Iliafen and Aliya Edwards. The team has many talents, but they want to overcome the ACL torn apart by Georgia Amoor, the sixth pick in the preseason.
11. Connecticut Sun
The Sun, who played the playoffs last year, looks like a whole new team after Dihonai Carrington, Ty Harris, Dewanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas left this offseason. The good news is that we were able to draft high-upside athletes with Saniya Rivers and Anesah Morrow at Saniya Rivers and Anesah Morrow. They are looking to build the future core, the WNBA’s second highest ever scorer to provide veteran leadership. Things are very different this year in Connecticut compared to past years.
10. LosAngeles Sparks
The Sparks were 8-32 last year, but there is reason to be optimistic towards the 2025 season. Rickea Jackson entered his second year with the WNBA and grew as a scorer and playmaker as the season progressed. Diaika Humvee is in an All-Star season and she is now welcoming her former Las Vegas teammate Kelsey Plum to Angel City. Plum brings the veteran presence at point guard to that lackluster team last year. Cameron Brink is looking for a return from the torn ACL in June.
9. Dallas Wings
Yes, it’s a Paige Bookers show in Dallas, but the entire team has undergone this offseason makeover under the direction of Kurt Miller. Bueckers will join for the formidable start unit as Arike Ogunbowale, Dijonai Carrington, Nalyssa Smith and Teira McCowan are playing a big role from the bench with Maddy Siegrist and Ty Harris playing a major role. Do all the pieces click right away, and what learning curve is there for Booker in her newcomer year? It ultimately determines the outcome of the wing season.
8. Chicago Sky
The Chicago sky continues to try and build a large portion of it as Angel Reese and Camila Cardoso enter their second year. They will be joined on the front court by Elizabeth Williams, who missed most of last season due to a knee injury. But the question of the sky is who will hit the outside shot. With Marina Mabry gone, the team will look for contributions from Rachel Bangham, Courtney Vanderroot and Haley Van Liss from the boundary. It is worth noting how Reese’s work in conjunction with Chelsea Gray is carried through the WNBA using Vandersloot.
7. Atlanta’s dreams
It’s a new era of dreams under new head coach Carl Smesco. His powerful offense highlights the three-point shot, with the dream having many square pegs (on paper) to fit into the round hole of the offense with the addition of Britney Griner and Briona Jones. In both Dream’s preseason game, Griner scored the team’s first point from Deep. Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray are stars, but will the team take up the offensive scheme so quickly that they don’t fall into the rankings?
6. Phoenix Mercury
There is no Diana Taurasi. There is no Britney Greener. Are you us? of course Is this a Phoenix Mercury? The franchise welcomes Satau Sabbary and Alyssa Thomas into the desert and goes with Carly Copper. Mercury must have a strong crime with the ability to score at all three levels. Depth is a concern, but there are three stars you will look for when you try to identify a true candidate.
5. Seattle Storm
The Storm had a great offseason, quietly going back to their team. The injuries hit security guards hard as Nica Mule, Jordan Horston and Katie Lou Samuelson all tore the ACL since the end of last season, but the storm brought in veterans Erica Wheeler, Alisha Clark and Lexie Brown. Jewell Loyd is gone, but the deal that sent her to Las Vegas allowed Seattle to net the No. 2 pick. The benefits are immeasurable for the storm.
4. Indiana Fever
Fever had 11 games in 20 days last season, but was one of the hottest teams in the post-Olympic league. They built around Caitlyn Clark this offseason, bringing in Natasha Howard, Dewanna Bonner and Sophie Cunningham and re-signing Kelsey Mitchell. Fever is highly anticipated, and under new coach Stephanie White, who has been successful in the Sun over the past two seasons, they have the leadership to lead them to the top four seeds.
3. Las Vegas Ace
Vegas has many of the same faces. One new star for Jewell Loyd, including A’jaWilson, Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray and Kiah Stokes, but there are also some leading figures that have moved on. Alisha Clark is in Seattle. Sid Colson is in Indiana. Kelsey Plum is located in Los Angeles. Kate Martin is in Golden State. This is a team led by the best players in basketball, but here is a depth concern for the ace. But opposing them means betting on Wilson. That’s not advised.
2. Minnesota Links
Lynx is looking to reclaim Rick to New York Liberty from his Game 5 loss in the WNBA Finals. They return powerful offenses and elite defenses led by Naphesa Collier, Kayla McBride, Courtney Williams, Alanna Smith, and Bridget Carleton. Jessica Shepherd will return to Minnesota this year after halting her contract due to international duties last season. She will boost Minnesota’s big interiors. Lynx has something to prove this year. Please be careful.
1. New York Liberty
According to Winsidr staff, Liberty is the first team heading into the 2025 WNBA season. After winning the title last year, that makes sense. Liberty will return the cores to Breana Stewart, Johnkel Jones, Sabrina Ionescu and Leonie Fevich, and Marine Johannes, who played for France last year. What’s interesting is how Freedom handles the losses of Vietniya Rainey Hamilton (knee injury) and Kayla Thornton, selected by Golden State in the expanded draft. Newcomer Natasha Cloud will be slotted at the starting guard spot, but people like Kennedy Burke and Marchesha Davis will need to step up as wing depth.
