Flyers Eye Jason Robertson to Land Their Very Own NHL Star in Latest Trade Buzz

The Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly considering a major trade this offseason, eyeing Dallas Stars’ star winger Jason Robertson, who could soon be available on the trade market. Robertson, a former 109-point player known for his size and scoring ability, is nearing the end of his contract, which currently has a $7.75 million cap hit. Reports suggest that the Stars are looking to make their lineup tougher and need defensive depth, cap space, and assets for upgrades, making Robertson a potential trade candidate.

The Flyers, with around $23 million in cap space, could comfortably absorb Robertson’s salary while planning to re-sign restricted free agents like Cam York, Noah Cates, and possibly Jacob Pelletier. Looking ahead to 2026, Philadelphia will clear significant cap space by offloading contracts like Kevin Hayes, Scott Laughton, and Cam Atkinson, as well as the expiring deal of Ivan Fedotov. This would make room for Robertson, whose future deal might reach $10 million annually but is considered a valuable asset for the Flyers.

Philadelphia lacks a player of Robertson’s caliber, with their current left-wing options, Tyson Foerster and Owen Tippett, both playing differently and not matching Robertson’s offensive production. The Flyers could create a trade package involving players like Tippett, York, Bobby Brink, and Foerster to acquire Robertson. While Robertson’s speed is sometimes questioned, his consistent 40-goal and 80-point seasons make him a unique and impactful player that could transform the Flyers team.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars face the challenge of re-signing Robertson along with other players like Thomas Harley and Mason Marchment, and may look to the Flyers’ assets and draft picks to help manage their roster. Replacing Robertson won’t be easy for Dallas, but acquiring young, promising players like Tippett could be part of their strategy.

This trade speculation highlights the Flyers’ ambition to accelerate their rebuilding process by adding a genuine star talent, while the Stars look to bolster their defensive depth and balance their roster and cap space.

Fan Take: This potential trade buzz is huge for hockey fans as it signals aggressive moves that could reshape both the Flyers and Stars. Bringing in a proven star like Jason Robertson could electrify Philadelphia’s lineup, while Dallas’s roster shake-up could set a new tone in the Western Conference — a win-win for competitive drama and the sport’s excitement.
