PARIS — The ceremony honoring Mary Pierce, the last French woman to win the title at Roland Garros 25 years ago, was discarded because she was unable to attend, the French open organizer said Wednesday.

The ceremony was scheduled to take place Thursday during the women’s semi-finals at the Clay Court Grand Slam. But Pierces can’t be there “for personal reasons” this week, organizers said.

Pierce’s title at the 2000 French Open was the latest in French player, male or female singles at Roland Garros. Pierce, 50, also won the doubles title that year. Her other Grand Slam single title took place at the 1995 Australia Open, helping France win two Fed Cup titles.

The ceremony was supposed to be to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her title at Roland Garros, a 2019 guide to the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the French open organizer said.
