Galloway, N.J. — Elizabeth Schizokol birded the first five holes and shot an 8-under 62 on Friday, earning the share of the first round lead with Ilhee Lee at Shoprite LPGA Classic.

Playing in the afternoon on Seaview’s Bay Course, Szokol continued her opening birdie run with a bogey on No. 6, adding birdies to 8, 9, 13 and 16.

“I’m delighted to have a great start and really look forward to the weekend,” Skoll said. “There’s a lot of golf left and I’m really excited to see today’s good golf and hard work pay off today.”

The 30-year-old American teamed up with Cheyenne Knight to win the only tour at the 2023 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational.

Top-ranked Nelly Corda opened at 71, with 68 for the second Gino Chiticle. There was Maja Stark, who was the winner of the US Women’s Open at Erin Hills on Sunday, shooting 70.

Lee birded three straight holes on 3-5, 8-10, 16-18, and had one bogey in the morning round. The 36-year-old Korean won the 2013 pure Silk Bahamas LPGA classic.

“I’m not expecting,” Lee said. “I’m just playing golf. Come out and have fun. That’s it.”

After 65 in one of two 54-hole tournaments remaining on the LPGA Tour schedule, Japan’s Akie Iwai was third. The other is the Walmart NW Arkansas Open.

“Usually, I feel a fast, short tournament for four days,” Iwa said. “So we have to make a lot of birdies.”

Wei-Ling Hsu was 66 years old and was with Aline Krauter, Ayaka Furue, Polly Mack, Saki Baba, Dewi Weber and Gurleen Kaur.
